Kraft-tex Style: Kraft-tex Combines the Best of Leather & Fabric
Compiled by Roxane Cerda. C & T/Stash, $21.95 (120p) ISBN 978-1-60705-910-3
Kraft-tex is an "eco-friendly paper-based material" that can substitute for, or be used alongside, fabric, leather, and vinyl. Here, editor Cerda presents patterns using the innovative material in a well-designed collection of 27 projects, complete with photos, diagrams, and instructions. The book assumes readers have basic sewing skills, although some tips on kraft-tex-specific needlework are included. A chapter of bag designs, which range from a simple yoga mat sling to a makeup bag that uses dye on kraft-tex for a beautiful mottled look, is a particular stand-out. A charming snowflake wall-hanging makes use of a die-cut machine usually used for scrapbooking. Wallets, bags, camera straps, and more round out the collection. Oddly, a photograph of what kraft-tex looks like in the package isn't included, nor is the range of colors explained (from the photographs, it appears to be extensive). And where does one buy this wonder material? It's not mentioned, but eager crafters will want to know after a glance through the book. Full-color photos. (Aug.)
