Should I Scoop Out My Bagel? And 99 Other Answers to Your Everyday Diet and Nutrition Questions to Help You Lose Weight, Feel Great, and Live Healthy
Ilyse Schapiro and Hallie Rich. Skyhorse, $15.99 trade paper (240p) ISBN 978-1-63450-231-3
Schapiro and Rich write in a style that will make readers feel like they’re at a girlfriends’ night out, drinking wine (empty calories!) and getting “no-holds-barred” answers for “every modern woman wondering why her weight is high, her libido is low, and her mind is scattered.” The book covers 99 common questions about health and diet. Organization can be a little light—sometimes related topics are grouped together, and sometime not. Still, the questions are timely, many relating to popular diet fads and strategies: should one “scoop out” a bagel, eat wraps instead of sandwiches, or go completely gluten-free? It’s all here: sugar; soda; jet lag; dessert; eating out; dark meat vs. light. The advice given is well documented, and though some secondary sources are included—such as Fox News, WebMD, and the Huffington Post—their suggestions are credible. This fun, breezy guide positions the authors as both experts and the reader’s best friends, encouraging, advising, and cheering on. (Jan.)
