Menstruacion: Que Es y Que No
Maria Luisa Marvan, Sandra Cortes-Iniestra. Editorial Pax Mexico, $15 (152pp) ISBN 978-968-860-898-2
The authors, both clinical psychologists, here look at the cultural aspects of the menstrual cycle. They study ancient beliefs, myths, and taboos related to menstruation, as well as current attitudes toward the monthly cycle. They do the same with premenstrual syndrome and menopause, examining the contemporary stereotypes associated with both. Each chapter has a bibliography of articles from academic, social science, and medical journals, though most of these are in English. The book concludes with a series of anecdotes and jokes collected by the authors as they worked on the book. Recommended for academic libraries with collections on health sciences and women's studies.-Barbara M. Bibel, Oakland P.L., CA
