Adventure in Granada
Walter Dean Myers. Puffin Books, $3.95 (87pp) ISBN 978-0-14-032011-4
Award-winner Myers kicks off Arrow adventures with a fast, funny, suspenseful stoy related by Chris Arrow, 17. With his younger brother Ken, Chris hangs out in Granada, Spain, while their mother, an anthropologist, interviews families in the hills. The Arrow boys help a new friend, Pedro, when the police accuse him of stealing the Crusader's Cross from the church where it has been treasured for centuries. Chris and Ken suspect two Swiss travelers, Bauer and especially Schumacher (""El Creepo''), because these men keep on Pedro's trail, probably believing the boy is guilty and planning to grab the cross from him. The story's high point occurs when the thieves grab Pedro and the Arrows chase them in a bus. The good guys win, at last, but a crate of chickens on the ``borrowed'' bus causes Chris to wind up with egg on his face. (1014)
