No Man's Land: A Memoir
Ruth Fowler, , read by the author. . Penguin Audio, $34.95 (0pp) ISBN 978-0-14-314330-7
Ruth Fowler reads her truly inspiring and often-jaw dropping memoir detailing her journey from the United Kingdom to post 9-11 New York City. She dreams of becoming a writer, and after completing a degree at Cambridge, she journeys to the States only to realize that in order to stay afloat she will have to become “Mimi,” a stripper. Fowler's rich, slightly rough English accent is equally as interesting as her story; her delivery is as honest as it can be, almost as if she is speaking directly to the listener in an incredibly private conversation. There is not one hint of performance or narration, this is the real deal. Fowler's story of losing her identity is utterly captivating.
