Too Big, Too Small, Just Right
Frances Minters. Harcourt Children's Books, $13 (40pp) ISBN 978-0-15-202157-3
Opposites may attract, but they also prove to be humorous obstacles for a bunny couple and their mouse friend. When Bynum's (Altoona Baboona) winsome watercolor-and-ink drawings show the pair out dancing, for instance, the male bunny discovers that his mouse pal makes ""too short"" a partner, while the female bunny struggles with a ""too tall"" giraffe. In another spread, the bow tie-clad bunny goes entirely ""too fast"" on his roller skates to suit his sidekick, who nearly loses her purse and pearls, while he thinks her attempt to skate gingerly alongside a guardrail is ""too slow."" But each of Minters's (Cinder-Elly) comical encounters does resolve happily: the rabbits discover what is ""just right"" just by being together, whether it's swinging on the dance floor or skating away in an embrace, their diminutive buddy in tow. Ages 2-5. (Mar.)
