Delicioso: Una Coleccion de mis Recetas Favoritas Con Sabor Latino
Ingrid Hoffmann. Vintage Espanol, $29.5 (256pp) ISBN 978-0-307-39085-1
A familiar face on the Food Network, Simply Delicioso's Hoffmann offers recipes with a Latin flair or origin in this, her debut cookbook. Hoffmann's first show was on Univision, but she moved on to Galavision and has appeared regularly on English- and Spanish-language programs since 2005. She also publishes a bimonthly column in the Rumbo newspaper chain. The Miami-based Hoffmann is the daughter of a Cordon Bleu chef, and her Colombian upbringing and continental travels have influenced her own tastes and style. In 11 chapters, she showcases various courses along with tips on how to get the best Latin flavor from a U.S. kitchen. The book begins with photographs and descriptions of typical Latin American ingredients with which many U.S. cooks may not be familiar. The first chapter includes various options for breakfast, from oatmeal with cinnamon to yucca bread and an Antioquean frittata, and there are whole chapters on vegetables, sweet and savory drinks, and desserts. Hoffmann offers novel variations on well-known recipes, such as guacamole and ceviche, as well as her favorite rice and bean recipes. Sure to be a library favorite, as well as a much-used book in the kitchen; recommended for all libraries and as a welcome present to any established or daring cook. Catherine Rend\xF3n, Savannah, GA
