When I Grow Up--
Heidi Goennel. Little Brown and Company, $12.95 (32pp) ISBN 978-0-316-31838-9
""What would you like to do when you grow up?'' is a question frequently asked of and by children that is here given space with answers as varied as the temperaments of those individual children. There are the serious ones who would like to do things adults themselves don't find particularly pleasinglike shaving, and working in an office. Others go for conventional wishes like driving a car or flying a planefeats that only adults can accomplish. There are, however, more logical answers, like having ``my own candy store'' or the simply creative ``building a house.'' New Yorker cover artist Goennel, whose first book was Seasons, has captured some of the essence of such youthful wish-making in inviting jellybean-hued colors. The book, less encompassing than one child's own imaginative powers, is nevertheless engaging. Ages 4-8. (April)
