The Easter Chicks: A Lift-The-Flap Storybook
Caroline Repchuk, Jackie Harlan. Little Brown and Company, $7.7 (32pp) ISBN 978-0-316-83679-1
Spring is in the air in this interactive Easter tale: in the fresh and vivid colors, and in the abundance of flowers and wide-eyed animal characters. A mother hen has lost her five chicks. As she searches the farmyard environs, among the hedges, in the field and meadow, other furry and feathered babies turn up along the way, revealed behind flaps in the illustrations. Also semi-concealed among the vegetation are decorated Easter eggs, which the reader is encouraged to count up at the very end. A menacing fox makes a brief appearance, but the farmer chases him off, and it's just as well. There's little place in such a sunny story for even a hint of fowl play. Ages 1-3. (Mar.)
