Body of Sin
Eve Silver. HQN, $7.99 mass market (384p) ISBN 978-0-373-77592-7
Silver continues her Otherkin series (Sins of the Flesh; Sins of the Soul) with this mythology-heavy paranormal romance. Soul reaper Lokan Krayl was brutally murdered by his father, Sutekh (aka Set), an Underworld god. Lokan's brothers manage to reunite his soul with his body, giving him a second chance at life if he can pass a series of tests. To Lokan's surprise, his guide through the Underworld turns out to be Bryn Carr, the mother of his daughter. Lokan and Bryn had hidden their supernatural abilities from each other, but now they are forced to work together, since Lokan is the only one who can protect their daughter from Sutekh. Silver's use of Egyptian mythology is a refreshing change of pace in the genre and adds plenty of creepy atmosphere, but the slow-moving plot makes the romance feel short-changed, despite the use of flashbacks to fill in the gaps.
