Love Me, Love My Werewolf

This first title in a new series features a buoyant group of third graders who form the Pet Lovers Club. Since having to give his dog Rolf away, Bernie no longer feels like a member. Dirty Donald, the class bully, makes Bernie feel even worse, saying, ``You don't have a pet anymore, why do you hang out with that stupid club?'' Hurt and angry, Bernie becomes determined to teach Donald a lesson. Just a few weeks before the Pet Lovers Club Halloween party, Bernie stumbles upon a homeless mutt. With a bit of courage, creativity and black dye, Bernie and the dog are able to stifle Donald and add some excitement to the party. Roos's refreshing blend of sprightly characters, lovable animals and Halloween fun comes just in time for the holiday. Ages 8-11. (Oct.)
