Seasons of Delight
Tasha Tudor. Philomel Books, $14.95 (12pp) ISBN 978-0-399-21308-3
Each spread of this pop-up book is devoted to the special occasions associated with a particular time of year. ""Spring'' shows children involved in the maple-sugaring that takes place in March, hanging a tree with Easter eggs, and delivering May baskets. The ``Summer'' festivities include square dancing on Midsummer's Eve, swimming in the pond and the Fourth of July picnic. The year ends in front of an enormous Christmas tree. This book reveals a charm-filled, simpler way of life, although readers will see that the good old days had drawbacks: `` . . . thoughts of Spring Cleaning are uppermost in the minds of good housewives. Dogs, boys and men make themselves scarce!'' (All ages)
