A Likely Story
Jenn McKinlay. Berkley Prime Crime, $24.95 (304p) ISBN 978-0-425-26074-6
McKinlay's Library Lover's series moves to hardcover with this amiable sixth entry (after 2014's On Borrowed Time). Lindsey Norris, the director of the Briar Creek, Conn., public library, often takes books to reclusive brothers Stewart and Peter Rosen, who live on a small island, via the water taxi piloted by her ex-boyfriend Mike "Sully" Sullivan. On Lindsey and Mike's latest trip, no one meets them at the dock, and when they navigate the treacherous (booby-trapped) entrance to the Rosens' house, they find Peter murdered and Stewart missing. Police chief Emma Plewicki takes over, but that doesn't keep Lindsey from forming her own plan to find Stewart. Intrigue is provided by wealthy Evelyn Dewhurst buying up islands and Chicago antique collectors Kevin Perkins and Calvin Hodges arriving to visit the Rosens. Lindsey's attraction to both Sully and handsome (but married) actor Robbie Vine provides some welcome romance amid the sleuthing. Agent: Christina Hogrebe, Jane Rotrosen Agency. (Nov.)
