Although this story spans the world of high society from Hollywood to Paris to London to Rome, essentially it is a moral tale about three hard-working girls trying to make it. Named for the cities and places where they were born, Paris, India and Venetia are the daughters of Jenny Haven, glamorous American film star, and have been raised according to the Puritan work ethicleavened by a dash of haute couture. When Jenny dies under mysterious circumstances, the daughters hope that some of her millions will trickle down to boost their budding businesses. But their mother has apparently died in penury and now each daughter must create her own success, as well as try to clear Jenny's name. Typical of romance novels written by some British writers, this is saucily titled, impeccably written, predictably plotted and essentially rather dull. Doubleday Book Club featured alternate. (May)
