I Want to Be a Farmer
Edith Kunhardt. Grosset & Dunlap, $6.95 (26pp) ISBN 978-0-448-09068-9
These two nonfiction books offer vivid, explicit information about two careers in an entertaining and visually appealing format. Each book is told from the point of view of a child describing his or her parent's occupation. The books are illustrated with sharp, full-color photographs of authentic settings. In Farmer , Nathan's entire family pitches in to care for the farm animals and tend the crops. It looks like such fun--no wonder Nathan wants to be a farmer when he grows up. Holly's father inspires her hankering in Fire Fighter ; he's a volunteer. She enjoys playing with his equipment and climbing on the fire truck. One night he is called to a fire. While the family waits for him to return, readers travel to the fire and watch Holly's father put it out. These two books would be welcome additions to any reader's shelf; many will eagerly await future volumes in the series. Ages 3-7. (Mar.)
