Babys Tow Truck
Norman Gorbaty. Grosset & Dunlap, $6.95 (1pp) ISBN 978-0-448-40597-1
These Baby Fast Rolling books could be just the ticket to introduce little ones to the concepts of vehicles, motion and--of course--reading. Borrowing the format of the Fast Rolling series, sturdy pages are diecut to resemble truck, bus or fire engine, with arcs at the bottom making room for a set of plastic wheels. Close each book with a Velcro flap and behold: a toy. The primary difference between the two series lies in construction--the wheels here, we're assured, won't come off. (Those concerned with little ones' safety might think twice, however, about the sharp points formed at the outer bottom corners.) Stories are incidental, with each showcasing the designated vehicle in its hour of glory as it earns the gratitude of the human characters. Manifestly proving that books themselves are fun, this series steers kids onto the fast track when it comes to appreciating the printed word. Ages 6 mos.-up. (Mar.)
