Louisiana Dawn
Jennifer Blake. Ballantine Books, $8.95 (0pp) ISBN 978-0-449-90178-6
It is the 18th century, and Cyrene Nolte, a woman of high character, lives near the Louisiana waterfront and is thankful that her two brothers are close by to guard her virtue. But one night, during a rare moment alone, Cyrene rescues Rene Lemonnier from the river. Rene is a rake, but Cyrene doesn't mind. In fact, she soon wishes her brothers would stop protecting her. After a while, she reasons that if she loses her virginity, there will be no more call for them to guard her, and she asks Rene to make love to her. Rene complies with Cyrene's scheme, and she soon has a new guardian but finds that she might not be able to keep him. Blake (Southern Rapture) has written another satisfying romance. (October)
