Baby Feminists Too
Libby Babbott-Klein, illus. by Jessica Walker. Viking, $9.99 (24p) ISBN 978-0-451-48013-2
Using the same formula as Baby Feminists, this lift-the-flap board book takes readers through a new variety of notable figures, all of whom “found their own way to change the world and make it a more equal place for people of every gender.” Each person is presented in a portrait of them as an adult that, when lifted, reveals an infant holding items that relate to their adult selves. A jersey-clad baby Mia Hamm holds a soccer ball, while baby Rosa Parks plays with a toy bus. Well-known trailblazers (Parks and Amelia Earhart) sit alongside modern figures such as Rigoberta Menchú Tum, Tammy Duckworth, Laverne Cox, and bell hooks. As in the first volume, cheekily interactive elements and the inclusivity of the cast and language (wisely leaving behind the gender binary of the previous title) are a winning combination that may appeal most to adult readers. Ages up to 3. [em](Sept.)
