Look Baby! Listen Baby! Do Baby!
True Kelley. Dutton Books, $9.95 (30pp) ISBN 978-0-525-44320-9
Here's a book on baby-ology: what babies do with their mouths, noses, eyes, hands; the sounds they hear and where they hear them; and the activities, silly and serious, that keep them busy day in and day out, until they aren't babies anymore. Kelley must have been following tykes around for months to capture so many expressions and mannerisms. She shows all the different ways they eatslurping spaghetti, breast-feeding, a milk moustache, birthday cake by handsleep and cry. Included are the whirring noises of the lawnmower and the growl of a mean dog, the buzz of daddy's shaver; games like peek-a-boo and ""this is the way the lady rides'' are depicted. There are so many babies on these pages that readers will have trouble picking out a favorite, but looking for one is half the fun. Definitely and delightfully a book for sharing, imitating and enjoying many times over. Ages 18 months-3 years. (September)
