Paddington's Clock Book
Michael Bond, Karen Bond. Holmes & Meier Publishers, $5.95 (12pp) ISBN 978-0-528-82002-1
At seven o'clock, Paddington Bearwho sleeps with his red hat onpokes his nose out of the covers and decides to grab a few winks more. By eight, he's splashing water on his whiskers. Readers have the chance to arrange the moveable hands on the face of a clock as Paddington spends his day eating, cooking with Mrs. Bird, snoozing, writing postcards, drinking tea (twice) and finally going to bed. Those unfamiliar with Paddington may not know why a news item about Peru excites him, and parents will probably have to explain the Britishism ""elevenses.'' A pleasant introduction to the concept of time, though by no means a comprehensive one. (4-7)
