Clementine's Winter Wardrobe
Kate Spohn. Orchard Books (NY), $13.95 (31pp) ISBN 978-0-531-05841-1
Clementine the Cat knows winter is coming, and this year she wants to be prepared. She imagines all of the new clothes she will need, and the variety of possibilities for each article. She envisions numerous longjohns, shirts, jumpers, sweaters, socks, boots, necklaces, coats, scarves, hats and even 252 mittens. By the time Clementine decides which of each she wants, winter has arrived, and out she dashes to romp in the snow. Children will love poring over the array of garments presented in Clementine's imaginary wardrobe, and the design of the book may lead readers to make some choices of their own. Spohn's cheerful colored-pencil drawings are chock-full of charm and detail, and not only reinforce color and number concepts, but provide plenty of fun. Ages 3-6. (Sept.)
