Best Friends Pretend!

The two friends that star in this board book aren’t content to just “play princesses” (though they enjoy doing that, too). In their imaginations, the girls also pretend to be ice-cream truck operators, superheroes, astronauts, and explorers (“Through the jungle,/ down the river,/ nighttime noises/ make us shiver”). Munsinger wholeheartedly embraces each imagined setting, picturing the girls swooping down on a crowd of giant, monster “bad guys” in their superhero guises and (on the other end of the pretend-play spectrum) pushing strollers while wearing oversize high heels and gabbing on smartphones: “We’re busy moms/ with lots to do.” Solid fodder for readers’ own imaginary exploits.
