Spot the Dot
David A. Carter. Scholastic/Ruckus, $12.99 (14p) ISBN 978-0-545-50009-8
Carter’s One Red Dot invited readers to find a red dot on each spread. This small-format pop-up book does the same, expanding the game to include dots of different colors and making use of wheels, tabs, flaps, and more. On the “Spot the yellow dot” page, 35 dots appear against a purple backdrop; pulling a tab changes the colors of certain dots and reveals one yellow one. The challenges grow increasingly complex as the book unfolds, and the dot-filled pop-up finale will trigger grins when children figure out where the white dot is hiding in plain sight. A simple but entirely engaging introduction to colors and tactile exploration. Ages 3–5. (Sept.)
