Kissyfur and His Dad
Dina Anastasio. Scholastic, $1.95 (0pp) ISBN 978-0-590-40108-1
Kissyfur's father yearns for freedom and is waiting for the chance to get his son away from the circus, the only world they've ever known. After they escape, Kissyfur doesn't like freedom much, and tells Dad that they would be warmer back at the circus. But Dad insists they give it a chance; when they find a new home and Kissyfur has a romp with a butterfly, the little bear learns the real meaning of being free. This is a tie-in title with a series of TV specials, and three more Kissyfur books are planned. Despite a slight plot, the love and warmth between Kissyfur and his Dad are very realrefreshing qualities in a series involving licensed characters, where insipid sweetness usually reigns supreme.
