MacDonald Hall Goes Hollywood
Gordon Korman. Scholastic, $13.95 (0pp) ISBN 978-0-590-43940-4
Korman ( Beware the Fish! ; The Zucchini Warriors ) has written another rollicking tale about the boys who attend a Canadian boarding school. MacDonald Hall has been selected as the setting for a Hollywood film, Academy Blues , starring teenage idol Jordie Jones. Envious of Jordie's fame and fortune, Bruno Walton is determined to land a part in the movie and teach Jordie a lesson about being high and mighty. Surprisingly, Bruno discovers that Jordie--who has never been able to enjoy simply being with friends and attending school--is jealous of his life. The two unexpectedly become friends, but wherever they go, mishaps seem to follow. Nevertheless, Jordie decides his stay at MacDonald Hall is his most memorable experience ever. Korman's vibrant dialogue and breakneck action are the highlights of this merry romp. Despite some superficial characters, a predictable storyline and a plot that is merely a series of isolated episodes, laughs are as plentiful as Bruno's misadventures. Ages 9-12. (Mar.)
