Celibate for five years, successful romance novelist Elizabeth Banks meets the undeniably attractive Asher Gordon on the ski slopes and invites him home for dinner. This turns into a literary discussion, which segues into a night of love together. But Elizabeth is happy with her settled life and sends Asher away in the morning. Gradually she realizes that she loves him, at which point he returns, accompanied by Elizabeth's daughter Bronwyn, who introduces him as her husband. Elizabeth immediately spills the beans and Bronwyn rushes off to Utah, where she has a skiing accident that deprives of her of the use of her legsbut not her husband. Meanwhile, Elizabeth discovers that she is pregnant and it is too late for an abortion. Keith has written a first novel that, while self-conscious in its literary pretensions, offers mature characters and an interesting read. (June)
