Fifteen stories, told in a ``mordantly witty'' voice and set mostly in urban areas, explore the various permutations of love in the lives of their female protagonists. PW found that ``some selections . . . are overdone and grating. On the whole, however, there are enough satisfying stories here to make the collection a success.'' (Feb.)
