Jennifer's Rabbit
Tom Paxton. Morrow Junior Books, $12.95 (32pp) ISBN 978-0-688-07431-9
In this fanciful dream adventure, Jennifer, her rabbit and a menagerie of assorted creatures frolic on ""cookie-crumb sands'' beside ``the sea of the very best dreams.'' When they meet up with a gang of benevolent pirates, a moonlight sail turns into a merry dance. On the way home from their midnight escapades, Jenny and her animal companions count starswhich add up to a trillion and four. Originally written as a lullaby for his daughter by folksinger Paxton, the song makes easy transition to the picture-book format, but the unusual meter makes it difficult to read aloud. The illustrations are a blend of realism and fantasy, and set the mood for this nocturnal caper. Ages 2-6. (March)
