Trigwater Did It
Lissa Rovetch. Morrow Junior Books, $12.95 (31pp) ISBN 978-0-688-08057-0
Mr. and Mrs. Goodsmile wonder what happened to their delicious French toast with cherries and turn a questioning eye toward their son Arnie. ``Trigwater did it!'' says Arnie with a smile, blaming the big green creature who is his friend. On the bus Margery Brown spins around in her seat, saying, ``Arnie Goodsmile, you pulled my ponytail.'' Trigwater--invisible to all but Arnie--has struck again. Then Trigwater, who apparently has little respect for authority, flies a paper airplane under the nose of Arnie's teacher, Miss Plumdish. In talking with the school principal, Arnie realizes that Trigwater must either leave or learn to behave, and all ends happily. Bright illustrations abound with details, adding an engaging element to this capricious tale. Ages 4-up. (Aug.)
