Pizza for Breakfast
Maryann Kovalski. Morrow Junior Books, $13.95 (32pp) ISBN 978-0-688-10409-2
Well matched in appearance and temperament, Frank and Zelda are a team in business as well. They work hard, sell a lot of pizza and complain mightily about aching feet and an overheated kitchen--until the factory across the street goes belly-up and leaves them without a lunch crowd. Soon there is nothing to do but look at each other, and the couple realize how little they appreciated the good old days. A fairy in unlikely garb gives the two of them a chance to turn their misfortune around. Kovalski's ( The Wheels on the Bus ; Jingle Bells ) roly-poly characters are boldly drawn in homey and humorous strokes. With its mom-and-pop business setting, her droll tale is a splendid example of what can happen when you get what you wish for (and maybe what you wanted was right there all along). Ages 5-up. (Mar.)
