Dinosaurs and Their Relatives in Action
Tenner Ottley Gay, Tanner Ottley Gay. Little Simon, $7.95 (1pp) ISBN 978-0-689-71434-4
Youngsters may be disappointed--and parents relieved--to discover that these Early Reader Pop-ups' use of ``in action'' is not quite accurate, even by children's book standards. Given the abundance of sophisticated pop-up books available, and the possibilities inherent in Gay's chosen subjects, this duo seems fairly tame. But despite the comparative lack of ingenuity in the paper engineering, the endless fascination children have for these creatures will surely overcome this cavil. Both books present a wealth of information in generally understandable language, aided by Cassels's workmanlike, if somewhat bland, illustrations. The organization seems haphazard, however, as does the selection of material--readers are not given any idea of sharks' sizes, nor of the relative sizes of various dinosaur species to one another. Ages 4-8. (Oct.)
