Sports Fitness for Women
Elizabeth Day. B.T. Batsford, $0 (96pp) ISBN 978-0-7134-4692-0
The Days, physical education teachers and former amateur athletes in Britain, offer a serious sports book that falls short as a general fitness guide. A good, if earnest, introduction explains body physiology, sensible eating and how to exercise for maximum sports ability. The book also inclusdes a series of line drawings and black-and-white photographs, accompanied by brief descriptions of such maneuvers as body circling, squat thrusts, knee wagging and hurdle rocking. The grainy, unfocused pictures depicting women in drab shorts and T-shirts against a brick wall, as well as incomplete discussions of injuries, sports and pregnancy, and other topics will undoubtedly deter budding fitness enthusiasts.
