The Superfood Alchemy Cookbook
Jennifer Iserloh. Da Capo, $24.99 (256p) ISBN 978-0-7382-8474-3
Yoga teacher Iserloh (Fifty Shades of Kale) gives readers plenty of healthful tips and 100 recipes in this pleasing vegetarian cookbook. Each chapter focuses on a specific concept, such as promoting digestion, strengthening the immune system, and calming the mind. Iserloh’s tips involve various practices intended to achieve good health, as well as complementary recipes (be sure to stay hydrated, for example, when eating activated charcoal-infused cookies to aid in detox). Readers will find recipes like vanilla cinnamon sorbet (for kidney health), turmeric buffalo cauliflower (for the heart), roasted buttered Brazil nuts (for thyroid health), and roasted carrot apple soup with nutmeg (for “calming the mind”) to be surefire hits. Most recipes are easily sourced and come together with a minimum of fuss. Iserloh also includes instructions for making nonfood items such as essential facial oils, aloe vera ice cubes (to soothe sunburns), and a minty coconut oil toothpaste. Whether readers follow Iserloh’s tutelage to the letter or opt for a cafeteria approach, there’s plenty to keep them busy in this thoughtful collection. (Apr.)
