Color for Baby
Yana Peel. Candlewick/Big Picture, $21.99 (48p) ISBN 978-0-7636-7124-2
Peel follows Art for Baby and Faces for Baby with a collection of four foldout board books, packaged as a boxed set. Each book focuses on a single color (red, yellow, green, and blue), examined through contemporary art: Roy Lichtenstein’s still life “Bananas and Grapefruit 1” joins work from Damien Hirst and Josef Albers in the yellow book, while a Warhol Campbell’s soup can appears alongside dogs from Keith Haring and Jeff Koons to highlight red. Peel includes a diverse grouping of artists, media, styles, and subject matter (each image is labeled, gallery-style), creating lots of early encouragement and examples for tomorrow’s art history majors. Up to age 3. (Sept.)
