La Familia (del Pequeno Al Mayor): Your Family from Youngest to Oldest, Spanish Edition
Nuria Roca. Barron's Educational Series, $6.95 (36pp) ISBN 978-0-7641-1688-9
Gr 1-3-This wonderful picture book does an excellent job of describing what makes a family and discussing the role of parents and caregivers. Roca then goes on to offer examples of the many types of families. Marta, for example, is an only child with a large extended family. Marcos has a little sister that sometimes drives him crazy. Juan has a Dad and a twin brother. His mother has died, but many friends, neighbors, and unrelated caregivers lend support. Carla's mother has been married three times, creating a large, multicultural assortment of stepsiblings. Pablo is adopted and doesn't physically resemble his parents. The underlying message never waivers- families come in all shapes and sizes and there isn't one ""right"" way to be a family. Appendixes include recommended activities, discussion topics, and a guide for parents organized by chapters. Highly recommended for all collections. MOB
