Little Red Riding Hood

The Classic Fairy Tale Pop-Ups series opens with this fine retelling of Red Riding Hood’s jaunt through the forest. Seal’s illustrations incorporate textures that give the story a homey feeling (close-up photographs of carpeting blanket the floor of Grandmother’s house, and Red Riding Hood’s signature garment has a subtle fabric texture). While the text is straightforward and even a tad wordy, Ita’s pop-ups (including a nifty one that lets readers view the wolf-in-disguise from the foot of Grandmother’s bed) should hold kids’ attention.
