A Long Day in Lychford

The satisfying third installment in Cornell’s Witches of Lychford novella series (after The Lost Child of Lychford), which follows the lives of three women gifted with second sight in the picturesque and unique titular English town, incorporates contemporary politics. As Brexit threatens to change the political boundaries of England, curio shop owner Autumn accidentally distorts the supernatural boundaries surrounding Lychford. It’s up to Autumn and her fellow witches to right these wrongs before the collapse of civilization. Writing with characteristic verve, Cornell once again captures both coziness and danger in Lychford, and there are welcome moments of closeness among the three women. As always, Cornell’s brand of magic is delightfully atmospheric and refreshing. Fans of the series will appreciate that the intrigue is becoming more complex and far-reaching.
