The Seven Spiritual Secrets of Success
Richard Gaylord Briley. Thomas Nelson Publishers, $14.99 (179pp) ISBN 978-0-7852-8083-5
Briley's background and experiences should have perfectly tailored him for the writing of this book. As an entrepreneur, he has helped the Arthur DeMoss Foundation raise millions of dollars for charities; he has served as personal assistant to Norman Vincent Peale; he is the creator of the Positive Thinkers Club and of PLUS, the Magazine of Thinking. And yet while it might be a good resource for some (undergraduates who are trying to set their goals in life come to mind), this book frequently falls flat, bordering at times on pop theology and, at others, on pure tedium. Briley often confuses success with money. While there are certainly some sound ideas and some valid points, anyone looking for biblical principles should be wary. (Jan.)
