In the Hands of the Potter: From Life's Fiercest Trials Come Reassuring Truths about God's...
Dale Evans Rogers. Thomas Nelson Publishers, $15.99 (212pp) ISBN 978-0-7852-8300-3
For this octogenarian cowgirl, life has been a rocky trail. Until her marriage to screen partner Roy Rogers, Dale Evans saw God as ``an insurance policy'' to fall back on when she stumbled, which she did often enough as she let ``ambition take the reins.'' But at age 35, her hard-won career disintegrating, her stepchildren becoming even more challenging, Dale handed God the control. The overriding metaphor of this autobiography is God as a potter who molds and prods Dale and Roy Rogers-reshaping priorities, abilities and relationships, often through trials, including the deaths of three children. Author of 28 books, Dale Evans has previously published much of her story, but in this volume she gives us the big picture. A thematic rather than chronological progression, frequent references to Bible stories and reflection questions at the end of chapters heighten the inspirational tone. (Oct.)
