Like his bestselling holiday book The Christ of Christmas,
this devotional has all of the earmarks of a successful, attractive gift book. It is a padded hardcover with gilt-edged pages, a ribbon marker, and full-color artwork on nearly every page. And this is not the schmaltzy art that sometimes graces evangelical Christian devotionals, but classic Christian paintings from the likes of El Greco, Rembrandt, Titian, Caravaggio, and Raphael. Miller's 48 daily devotions take the reader from Shrove ("Fat") Tuesday to Easter Sunday. Although the book covers the entire Lenten season, Miller calls it the "pre-Easter season" and says that the book's focus is on preparing the reader's soul for the joy of Easter. Each devotion offers a countdown at the top of the page, informing readers of the number of days remaining until the big day. (Feb.)
