The Frazzled Female: Finding God's Peace in Your Daily Chaos
Cindi Wood. B&H Publishing Group, $12.99 (122pp) ISBN 978-0-8054-4069-0
Speaker and trainer Wood defines the 21st century Christian woman as a ""frazzled female"" who is ""frayed, challenged, frenetic...and totally dependent on God to keep all the segments of her life together."" Wood describes this woman as a ""wannabe"": she wants a fresh, radiant face, but doesn't quite cut it; her outfit used to be in style, but now appears haphazard; and the body that was once in decent shape now shows clears signs of wear and tear. Using mediocre comedic punches, Wood offers short, pithy life takes on such topics as intimacy with Christ, positive thinking, time management, interpersonal relations, introspective soul searching and a brief look at depression. Though Wood's topics are relevant to today's women and many will relate to her stories, there is little freshness to this text, which feels very much like the wannabes that Wood describes in the opener. Consider this tired challenge for women to visualize themselves as daughters of God so as to ""feel"" the part when taking on such mundane chores as grocery shopping: ""It's a fun challenge for me to visualize myself in holy attire when I walk into the grocery store. Believe me, I walk in with a smile on my face and a spring in my step just thinking about my robe and crown!"" Readers would have been better served if Wood had dug deeper into fewer topics rather than skimming the surface of so many, rendering this read lightweight and unsatisfactory.
