With Open Eyes: Conversations with Matthieu Galey
Marguerite Yourcenar. Beacon Press (MA), $10.95 (291pp) ISBN 978-0-8070-6355-2
The conversations recorded here by novelist Yourcenar form a kind of oral autobiography. She tells us that by age 12 she was on equal terms with her father, discussing Greek philosophy and Shakespeare with him. She notes her long-time attraction to Catholic mysticism as well as her interest in Eastern religions, and she discusses current issues. PW stated that ""she has worthwhile things to say about drugs, dreaming, love as sacred, and the art of translation.'' (March)
