You Push, I Ride
Abby Levine. Albert Whitman & Company, $14.95 (31pp) ISBN 978-0-8075-9444-5
Simple couplets and slightly longer verses comprise Levine's text, which traces the day of a piglet from rising to bedtime with playful switches in points-of-view. For getting ready to leave the house: ``You tie,/ you snap, / you zip,/ I wrap./ We go outside. You push, / I ride.'' Some lines are more successful than others; in a scene with the father, ``I brush, / You shave. / You leave, / I wave.'' Apple's watercolor depictions of the day are trim and airyshe captures many loving moments between parents and child; particularly winsome is her picture of ``You make a lap, / I take a nap.'' Even though the text sometimes strains, a happy, winning mood prevails. Ages 1-5. (Feb.)
