Cousteau's Papua New Guinea Journey

Last year the Cousteau Society launched a major expedition to Papua, New Guinea, and its offshore islands as part of a new series, ``Rediscovery of the World.'' The purpose was to explore diverse cultures and an exotic environment, and note ecological problems. The trekok? required two ships ( Calypso and the new windship Alcyone ), two aircraft, Zodiacs, trucks and jeeps to carry the diving, film and scientific teams. Jacques Cousteau's son and Richards, coauthors of Amazon Journey , here give us a day-by-day account of the various teams at work on land and underwater. They visit gold mines and butterfly farms, explore sunken vessels from World War II and fabulous coral reefs; they attend initiation ceremonies and other tribal rites.
