Dallas defensive end Haley has won five Super Bowl rings, the most in pro football history. He seems to have exceedingly strong likes and dislikes, at least as evidenced by this book, which has given him the reputation of being difficult. He has played for both the 49ers and the Cowboys and is forthright about playing hurt, which every pro gridder does in every game, he maintains. He insists he avoids sports groupies, since he has the notion that sex is something you do with someone you care for, and is outspoken in his disdain for the media. He argues that the reason he has never received the acclaim he deserves is because most football reporters don't know what they're writing about. Yet he has trusted former Albany [N.Y.] Times-Union sports editor Layden enough to collaborate on this book, which reveals more about Haley than many will want to know: for example, the kid in him ""is trying to come out"" when he watches cartoons before a game; he loves his mom like it says ""in the Bible""; and your dog ""won't hurt you, like some other people you might bring into your bedroom.""
