Embodied Prayer: Harmonizing Body and Soul
Celeste Schroeder. Liguori Publications, $10.95 (209pp) ISBN 978-0-89243-782-5
Schroeder, who teaches at Regent College and Trinity Western University in Vancouver, B.C., and is a liturgical dancer, has written a theological gem. Pointing out that Western culture has consistently separated body from mind and soul (generally putting the corporeal in a category of lesser importance), Schroeder strongly argues that one can neither have complete spiritual health nor wholly know God unless one opens one's body to Him. Her exegesis is excellent, employing scripture to back up each point of argument. The author also includes various physical exercises for prayer. Embodied is a book for anyone and everyone interested in exploring both prayer and a personal relationship with God by means of movement and dance. (Mar.)
