Jerry Fruchtman. HP Books, $16.95 (144pp) ISBN 978-0-89586-384-3
Los Angeles commercial photographer Fruchtman discusses basic principles of studio photography, which besides photojournalism and location photography is one of three major areas of opportunity for shutterbugs who aspire to become professionals. The author does still lifes, product pictures, fashion and food shots, and prefers studio set-ups, because, he says, ""I can control everything.'' He explains his recommendations for facilities, camera equipment, lenses, lighting, film, processing techniquesand the mechanics of setting up a business. He then follows with 86 color pictures, with commentary on the purposes, problems and creative skills used in each. This is a sound, useful guide. (October)
