Babies take center stage in this ode to the youngest residents of New York City, which incorporates local sights, customs, and landmarks. A toddler with purple hair that matches her mother’s gazes at a pyramid sculpture, which she later replicates with blocks in her high-rise apartment: “We say ‘MoMA’ when we really mean ‘Mama’... and we love to make art.” Lemay’s loose, brightly hued artwork shows babies learning their shapes (by way of pizza slices and bagels) and “big words” like “Fuhgettaboutit!” Babies from the boroughs will be the primary audience for this tongue-in-cheek homage to the Big Apple.
