Walker (Darker than Desire), also known as urban fantasy author J.C. Daniels, ably tackles the heavy subjects of domestic violence and stalking in this fast-paced contemporary romance. After fleeing an abusive relationship, Neve McKay heads home to the small town of Treasure McKay, Miss., and the love of her older siblings. But there’s been a delicious new addition to the tiny town: Scotsman Ian Campbell, who studied with Neve’s brother, Brannon, overseas. The chemistry between Ian and Neve is immediate, although they hesitate for different reasons—Ian about dating his best friend’s sister, Neve because she’s now gun-shy around men. Neve doesn’t realize that her abuser, William, has a direct connection to those she loves, or that he’s the one who distanced her from them in the first place. If she doesn’t keep her eyes open, she may lose her newly rekindled relationships—or her life. Walker sets the stage for additional books by introducing an engaging group of secondary characters, and readers will look forward to continuing the journey with them.
