Between the Lies

When Chloe Daniels, the narrator of this gripping psychological thriller from British author Adams (If You Knew My Sister), wakes up after a monthlong coma, she can’t remember anything about her former life. She’s hooked up to a mess of IVs and monitors, and the doctors tell her that she’s in a Brighton hospital, recovering from a terrible car accident. The people who identify themselves as her parents eventually take her back to a childhood home she doesn’t recognize. They lock the front gate, and even her little sister acts strange and distant around her. Her father, a psychiatrist, forces her to take part in hypnotic therapy sessions, meant to help her regain her memory, but they only leave Chloe shaken and confused. When she finds hidden photos of her old life, it becomes clear that Chloe can’t trust her family to tell her the truth about who she was and how she almost died. Every page has a new twist, not all of them believable. Readers will cheer as Chloe struggles to reconstruct her sense of self and the secrets from her past.
